5 Tips to Make Your LinkedIn Profile Stand Out to Pharma recruiters
It would be best if you treat your LinkedIn profile like your resume. Your profile needs to be visually appealing to future employers, especially in a professional environment and industry. It can be easy to neglect your LinkedIn page. However, you never know what opportunities may present themselves. I’ve put together the top tips on how to use your linked in profile as a tool to get a role within the pharmaceutical industry.
1. Make the profile attractive and professional
This may seem to be a prominent place to start, but a suitable photograph is the best place to start. A high-quality headshot is the best option. The photo does not need to be taken by a professional photographer; however, we must see your face clearly, and ensure that you look happy, friendly and approachable. Stray away from beach photographs or pictures with your pets or animals.
2. Engagement
Just like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, Linked In is a social media tool; even though it is different, as the purpose is to showcase your professionalism to like-minded people, it is beneficial to post your updates, as well as liking, comment, and to engage with forums that interest you. This will expand your network and provide insight to potential employers.
Part of engagement involves receiving an endorsement from other professionals. Requesting endorsements periodically from friends or ex-co-workers on your skills can only boost your chances of being seen by recruiters, as there is clear link and references to claims of being a leader, a hard worker, and a skills expert.
Lastly, don’t be afraid to write articles and share your thoughts and feelings on a particular subject matter. These articles can help you spark conversations and build your following on the platform.
3. Create a headline vs a job title
Choose a current headline instead of just a job title: E.g., Keen interest in areas such as Immunology or Gastroenterology. Creating a headline automatically makes you stand out from your competitors; without reading a lengthy description of your profile, the recruiter can see right away you have the passion and interest for the job they’re hiring for.
4. Linked in profile mirror image to resume.
Another basic or essential tip is that your CV and your linked profile are a mirror image and match. This emphasises that you are professional and organised. The last thing you want is to send in your resume on a job application for the recruiter to see that it differs from what was advertised on LinkedIn.
5. Keyword Profile
When writing your summary of your relevant experience in your linked-in profile, potentially having an overly descriptive history and outline of your profile is a put-off to potential employers. I think you should limit your profile to a maximum of 2 paragraphs and take keywords from the job description in your profile, for example, listing years of experience, teamwork, and therapy area.
